United Hangar Proposals
In
March 2008, Al Wells — a local Iowa City developer — stepped into the
airport scene with several great ideas to save the old Boeing/United Hangar
and add additional custom hangar condominium space for sale. The proposal --
now called "Amelia Field" -- is in an early stage, but here is a rough
outline:
Step One
The initial proposal is to raise and move the
Boeing United hangar to “Lot 1” in the North Airport Development, followed
by a complete restoration and rehabilitation as a heated working hangar,
with a new taxi access from lot 1 onto the airport.

Step Two
Add two more hangars onto Lot I, with (4) 1200
square foot business office suites for sale above the new hangar space with
access to the airport runways. The preliminary design incorporates a
traditional curved roof line with wrap around glass below the roof line to
resemble the Boeing United Hangar.
Step Three
To develop the Boeing United Hangar with restored
office space for lease in front and hangar condo space for up to 8 planes
depending on the make and model.

Boeing United Hangar and the two new hangars and adjoining office space.

Al has spoken with the Airport Commission at
their last meeting and was able to obtain constructive input and suggestions
from the commission and is moving forward in his plans based on that
information. He will be looking for input, and potential buyers as well as
