1960s Iowa City

According to long-time airport tenant Dennis Gordon, the photos, below, were taken by F.W. Kent, a former resident of Iowa City. (Kent Park, in Tiffin, Iowa, is named after him.)

In January, 2006 airport patron Marion Brown presented these historic photos to the Jet Air (our fixed base operator) staff, who eagerly scanned them into their computer.

With many thanks to Eryka Driscoll and the staff of Jet Air, here are photos of the Iowa City Airport taken in 1961 and 1963.

According to the donor, this was the first fuel truck in Iowa City...

Ozark served Iowa City with several flights each day...

Iowa City's July 23, 1963 airshow...

The 1963 airshow had an impressive military turnout...

Another shot of the cargo plane...check out the missile display!

The military used Cessna 310s...

Ozark came and went during the airshow...

Check out those classic cars!

The USAF medical transport made an appearance, too.

Folks were parked outside the fence on what is now Riverside Drive

A Cub?

The old maintenance shack...

Looking south down Riverside Drive. The bridges are the railroad bridge, Benton Street, and old Hwy 6

A great shot of then-new Coralville Dam...

Look at the size of those "N" numbers...

That hangar on the far left is ours today. The one that is open is our old one -- which looks EXACTLY the same today...

Ozark's DC-3s were an every-day sight in Iowa City...

A Tri-Pacer taxies in...

A beautiful (then-new!) Cessna 310

A Piper Apache...
