Every year the Iowa City "Sertoma Club" (Sertoma stands for "SERvice TO MAnkind") sponsors a fly-in breakfast at the Iowa City Airport, located adjacent to the inn.

As pilots ourselves, we try to support general aviation whenever we can.  Thus, we have taken an active role in all local aviation events.  For 2004 we sponsored the MATS Constellation by donating $1500 worth of theme suites to Sertoma,  for the crew to use throughout the week.

The MATS Constellation (see their website here) is one of the last of the classic 4-engine propeller-driven airliners still flying. The Connie's sleek shape, majestic shadow, and thundering radial engines graced our fair city for 7 days, giving Iowa City a treat it hasn't seen since the late 1950s!

In exchange for our donation, the Sertoma Club allowed us to set up a booth at their breakfast -- something they've never allowed before.  The booth was a terrific hit with local families, as we gave away over 400 helium balloons, ten pounds of candy, and held a drawing for a free night in our honeymoon suite, the "Pan Am Clipper Suite."   (See it here.)

The Connie crew kindly allowed us to tag along on a 1-hour flight, giving us an experience to remember!
