2006 AirGizmo-XM Install
In November of 2006 we had
in
Waterloo, IA install our Garmin 496 GPS into an
.
This device removes your portable GPS from your yoke, and installs it
into some spare acreage in the panel, allowing for the hiding of all
wires behind the panel.
With an XM satellite antenna, a GPS antenna, a
power cord, and XM satellite radio cords snaking every which way, this is a
terrific mod that really cleans up your aircraft.
At the same time, I had the shop connect the XM
radio output from the 496 to our intercom (so we could enjoy the music, as
well as the weather), and -- at their suggestion -- I also had them install
a little "XM Radio Kill Switch" (visible to the left of the avionics master
switch, in the pic, below) so that I can kill the music in a heartbeat if
needed.
