2006 Madeline Island
Every summer since he could reach the pegs, Joe and I have done a father-son trip, either on the motorcycle or in the airplane. This year, Joe chose the airplane, and together we selected Madeline Island as our destination. One of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior, Madeline Island offered us the correct balance of accessible-only-by-air (or boat) yet civilized enough so that we wouldn't starve! With mile after mile of beautiful shoreline and bike trails, we were assured of having something fun to do -- as long as the weather would hold. And hold it did! In fact, it was blazing hot, which made for some terrific swimming and biking. Together we enjoyed the trip of a lifetime -- it was an absolutely marvelous few days together.
