Airmail Directions
In 2005, Bill Tinkler donated copies of the original Airmail Pilots Direction book from the early 1920s.
This book contains a detailed narrative description of every landmark visible from an aircraft traveling from New York to San Francisco at low altitudes. Torturously thorough, this "narrative map" provided the early pioneers of cross-country flight with everything they needed to successfully complete their flights -- assuming they could see the ground!
