April Tornado Damage
On Thursday, April 13th, 2006, Iowa City was struck by FIVE tornados. One of those tornados touched down just 300 yards from the Inn, and caused minor roof and fence damage.
The rest of the city wasn't so lucky, with widespread damage and over two dozen injuries -- most, thankfully, minor. Our property was absolutely buried with debris, from shingles and tree limbs to insulation and building materials from the nearby Menard's (which had it's roof blown in). It took a full day to clean the property, and we filled our dumpster to the brim in the process.
Over the next week I snapped the pictures, below. The devastation was impressive, and the community is still adding up the cost as I write this...

We didn't get up flying till six days after the tornado, by which time most of the debris had been cleaned up. Despite this, the damage is still easily visible...

It's possible to see the path, even after the debris has been cleaned up (look for flattened trees)
