It's a Hurricane
After being roundly lambasted by many spotters for incorrectly identifying the plane in this video as a Hawker Hurricane, I changed the title of this video to "Typhoon Strafing Run." Well, I should've known better. After changing it, I was immediately (and consistently) bombarded with comments from all over the world, stating that this aircraft really WAS a Hurricane. Here is the comment that sums it up best: |

"Was going through it today and noticed that the video stating Typhoon strafing run is incorrect. It is in fact a Hurricane. The film was shot in North Africa while the RAF was testing out the Hurricane as a tank buster. As the Hurricane was a very stable gun platform it was the chosen aircraft to be fitted with the new cannon of which there was one under each wing. (Also you have to remember that by then the Hurricane was starting to become outclassed by most German aircraft and I suppose they had to find another role for the old girl, but don't quote me on that..!)" "6 sqn RAF started operations with the aircraft and were very successful with it. I believe the footage is of a 6 sqn `Hurri` doing its thing." |
