Pool Painting 2005
If, whenever you swim in an in-ground, concrete pool, you never take a moment to appreciate the paint and texture of the sides and bottom, we won't blame you -- we never did before, either.
Now, however, in our third year of ownership, when it came time to open the pool for the season we discovered two things when we removed the cover:
1. The sides and bottom would not return to a pristine white color, even when treated with muriatic acid.
2. The top step in the shallow end had degraded severely, and needed concrete work.
So, our little 8-hour pool-opening procedure turned into a major, 36-hour non-stop repair ordeal, with stripping, concreting, tiling, grouting and an entirely new coat of waterproof paint -- which we applied over the Memorial Day weekend.
But before all the work began, we decided to let our 14-year old son have a little fun, and skateboard the compound swoops and curves of the pool floor! Here are a few pix from the task:

And now, as long as we were going to paint anyway...

He got the chance...

And actually didn't kill himself trying!
