Sat, July 29th

Saturday was the day we sadly bid a fond farewell to the Allison brothers (and their wives), as they departed for their long journey Westward back to California.   Since most of their camping gear was Montblack's, they weren't sure what to do when he hadn't shown up yet when their departure time arrived.

No problem -- this is Oshkosh!  They simply piled everything neatly at their campsite, and departed, certain that it would all still be there when Montblack arrived later in the morning.

NOT!   With many pilots simply abandoning perfectly good camping gear (rather than trying to fit it in their planes at the end of the week), there is apparently a high-functioning group of scavengers within the Civil Air Patrol and EAA.  Within minutes, everything was GONE -- and poor Montblack had to spend the rest of the day chasing it all down.

Most importantly, Jim Weir's airshow chairs -- which Jim had ceremoniously mailed to Montblack, for inclusion in the rec.aviation party -- were recovered, after several hours of worrisome absence.  It was  a close call, but Montblack eventually retrieved everything from the EAA equivalent of a "lost & found".

Here are some pix from the day:
