Sunday Departure
All too soon, the week was done, and we had to say our own farewells to Oshkosh for another year. Even after 23 years, with the hundreds of miles we've walked, the thousands of planes we've seen, and all the Zaug's food we've consumed, the excitement never fades -- and it was truly sad to leave our favorite place on earth.
Before we left, of course, we had to break camp -- never fun, especially in the newly-returned heat of July. We then showered one last time (the showers were almost empty, for once), returned our bikes to Goodwill, and met Blanche Cohen (who was waiting for a weather break between her and Colorado) for one last fabulous breakfast at LaSure's.
Then, it was the long walk back through the ever-more-deserted North 40, contemplating life, flying, and our place in the universe. To say we're the luckiest family alive isn't far from the truth, and to have been able to enjoy the camaraderie and excitement of Oshkosh 2005 with so many great friends was truly the high point of our year.
