The Flying Tigers Suite
The
Flying Tigers officially known as the AVG, The American Volunteer Group
of the Chinese Air Force came into being in 1941, when retired US Army Air
Corps Captain Claire Chennault organized the first American fighter pilots
and ground crew in China.
America was not yet at war with Japan, but
President Roosevelt had quietly approved the resignations of dozens of
airmen, knowing full well where they were headed. The Curtiss P-40B Warhawks
the AVG received were British rejects, without gunsights, bomb racks, or
auxiliary fuel tanks.
The men were officially working under
contract with Central Aircraft Manufacturing Company to manufacture,
repair, and operate aircraft. No mention was made of air combat, or the
$500 bonus Madame Chiang Kai-Shek was paying for each Japanese plane shot
down. Fighting over China, Burma, and Thailand, the Flying Tigers were
often out-numbered 200-to-1, yet despite flying second-rate aircraft in
often-terrible jungle conditions, far from home they achieved an
astonishing combat success that has firmly established their high status in
aviation history.
Our ground floor Flying Tigers Suite echoes
those pre-war years in a spacious and comfortable way. With high ceilings
and unique Flying Tigers artwork galore, this 460-square foot,
non-smoking/no-pet suite pegs 1940s China to a "T" -- but with all the
modern conveniences you would expect in a fine hotel suite.
With a queen-sized bed, standard bath,
kitchenette, and easy access from both the parking lot and interior hallway,
the Flying Tigers Suite is the affordable suite of choice for the discerning
traveler. And, of course, your stay includes our free
delivered-to-your-suite continental breakfast each morning -- luxury at its
finest!
