Thu, July 27th

With all of our "social affairs" behind us, we were happy to face four more show days with absolutely NOTHING planned.   Relaxation was the name of the game, and we got it -- in spades.

Sadly, we had to bid adieu to our friends Edwin and Jim, who had to depart for Shreveport, Louisiana.  As always, it was great seeing them again -- and we look forward to next year!

The Air Force's newest plane, the F-22 Raptor, put on an astounding flight demonstration, stealing the show for the entire day.  Even the jaded Oshkosh crowd was on their feet, with their mouths hanging open, watching as they performed one seemingly impossible maneuver after another.  One thing was made clear: Vectored thrust plus computer controls make for one amazing fighter plane.

Here are some pix from the day:

Edwin and Jim heading back to Louisiana...

The blue Maule can sure carry a lot of stuff!

See you next year, guys!

A picture of the airshow...

Beautiful DC-3s were everywhere this year...

Another one, painted like an old United Mainliner...

The F-22 Raptors stole the show...

An amazing plane...

It can go very fast, very slow, and is incredibly maneuverable...

A low approach...

Dancing together, doing impossible manuevers...

Another cool Heritage Flight...

Joe with the B1

Joe with a beautiful Corsair...

A VERY rare Fury...

Joe with the Lancaster -- one of just two left in the world...

The oldest flying jet, a De Havilland vampire...

A great P-38...

The Lancaster is NOT a sleek bird...

But those four big Merlin engines sure make it sound cool!

The P-38 touching down EVER so gently...

The snout of a fantastic P-40...

A heavily-armed Skyraider...

Oh, wait -- it's a T-28...with BOMBS?

A DC-3 coming in low over our campsite...

Now that is a pretty plane -- right over our tent!

Post air-show plane watching in the North 40!

Dinner at the Charcoal Pit meant enduring awful Karaoke singing!
