2004 Reno Air Races
In September of 2004, hotel owners Jay & Mary Honeck set out on a grand adventure: To fly their 4-seat Piper Cherokee Pathfinder on a transcontinental flight to see the legendary Reno Air Races.
Their goal? To gather enough authentic Reno artwork and air racing memorabilia to transform a 590 square foot honeymoon suite into an awesome "Reno Air Race Suite"!
Now, a Pathfinder is a fine steed, with 235 horsepower, four seats, and a large (by light aircraft standards) luggage compartment -- but this would be no normal flight! Crossing the Sierra Nevada Mountains is never something to be taken lightly, especially in a single-engine aircraft, and flying 2600 miles in an airplane with a cruising speed of just over 160 mph is not for the faint of heart .
But they did it, and the results are evident in our new "Reno Air Racing Suite," completed in the Fall of 2004. (To see pix of this incredible honeymoon suite, click here. To read the entire narrative of this incredible flight, click here.)
