Saturday

Saturday was an open day at Oshkosh this year.  Not knowing if the hotel staffing situation would hold together this long, we had already seen what we really wanted to see, purchased everything we could find for the hotel, and were starting to get burned out on the daily dose of walking.

It was also the day we bade a fond farewell to Edwin and Jim and Jack and Steve, all of whom had long flights ahead of them.   It was with sadness that we said our goodbyes, knowing that it would be another year before we could all join up again.

So, we decided to just "hang out" and watch airplanes, and we agreed to watch the store at the Flying Colors Glass booth for Gary from 3 till 6 PM, so that he could actually see the air show for once!

Then, as evening fell, we met up again with Montblack, Jim Burns, and his son Nick to enjoy the evening departures.  We all toddled out to Runway 27, pulling lawn chairs along, to watch the growing exodus from Oshkosh, as hundreds of planes began to depart.  Always a fun activity, it was tinged with bittersweet feelings, as we watched our neighbors and friends arch into the sky, not to be seen again for another year.

Here are some pictures from that day:
